Naked Man Shot By Police

I know this is 2015 but racism is alive and well everywhere.  I read the article this morning about the officer killing the naked man in Georgia.  Seems very typical but there should have been a better way.  Why did the officer have to use his gun.  The man was naked and crawling around on the ground.  Why not use the Taser?  That would have incapacitated the man but not kill him.   Apparently he was a veteran suffering from mental illness.  There has to be a better way. 

It is open season on African Americans.  It is shoot first and ask questions later. You would think that times have improved but they have not...or not that much. Racism is something taught.  You do not come out of the womb a racist.  Parents teach their children to hate. Thus, those of us who were not raised that way, we have to be careful.  We have to teach our children to be aware that you may not be treated the right way when confronted by the police.  Better yet, do whatever you have to do not to be confronted by the police.  The outcome is not in our favor. 

There is still a reason to march...one day we shall overcome. We shall overcome one day.

The Weight In

I was not going to weigh in at all on the Zimmerman case.  It is all too sad and too wrong.  I would have to agree with the juror who appeared on GMA, that Zimmerman got away with murder.  Poor Travon Martin.  It is a sad case among many that have happened the very same way before.  Since racism and racial profiling is still alive and well in this country, there are those few innocents that will be caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.  They will be on the wrong end of the gun and on the wrong end of the judicial system. 

When I saw this picture that has been circulating around the web, I decided to post about it.  There is no justice for Trayvon and Zimmerman is a free man.  Free of sorts.  He will have to live with what he has done.  Time will make changes and eventually he will come to realize that he was wrong.  It may be years from now but that day will come. 

 

Race relations have improved but there are gross changes that need to be made on both sides.  Education is the key to a better life and so many do not take advantage of that. They are caught in the slave mentality that has been there since the civil war times.  Breaking out is not hard but it will take lots of effort.  Maintained effort.  Maintained because there are a barrel of crabs under every ladder. 

 

Rest Trayvon.  Rest well.  You are in a better place.  Gone too soon but better off that the rest of us dealing with the ugly reality of racism.

I have not spoken about Trayvon yet because the whole world seems to be.  Now I  finally decided to put in my two cents.  After looking and reading all that has been out so far, it seems that this is a travesty.  A young teen was killed just because he "looked" like he did not belong in the gated community in which he in fact lived! Why?  A Hispanic self appointed rentacop was trigger happy.  He chased this young man when he was told not to and to stay in his car.  The self defense story he is claiming is clearly full of holes.  The voice analysis has been done and it was Trayvon yelling for help and not Zimmerman.  He needs to be arrested soon for murder because that is what it was.  Trayvon was racially profiled by Zimmerman.  

It is 2012 and racism is alive and well in America.  I do not see that changing.  I have a child and it is sad that we still have to teach kids about racism.  That is still exists and to be careful because if you are african american and end up in the wrong place with the wrong people, it will be the end of your life.

Currents Run Deep!

I got to Starbucks this morning around 7am. Lovely morning. It is 2011 but still old currents run deep. I was in line behind one woman with two others behind me. The woman ahead of me placed her order and she asked the 2 clerks, baristas, where Stanley Street was. They did not know. That name was very familiar to me and I know I had been on that street before so I began to run through my memory so that I could place where that street was. It was not to far away. The woman then added that she had gotten off one exit of the interstate early and was trying to find her way. I still continued to place that street.. it was within about 4 miles of where this location is.

I did not say anything to her because I was still trying to get the directions right in my mind...exactly how many lights back she needed to go. Well, her coffee was ready and she got it and immediately turned and walked to the woman standing right behind me. She asked her if she knew where the street was. That woman behind me responded and told her she had heard her ask the clerks and she did not know. This woman then went to the last women behind me and asked her the same question.

I was a bit taken aback. Why I do not know. This is the south. I guess I was because she totally looked over me like I did not exist to ask the two people behind me if they knew. By this time I figured out exactly where she needed to go. Needless to say I did not offer my assistance. It was clear she wanted no assistance from me.

Racism. Those currents still run deep. I guess I just did not expect to be totally overlooked so blatantly in this day and age. Some places and locals here in the south it is expected. I guess I did not expect it at the local Starbucks which tends to be a melting pot for all wanting coffee.

It is sad because I have raised my child to be color blind. She is now just beginning college and is trying her fledgling wings in the social world. She has just begun to go out with friends of all colors to local restaurants and other establishments without me. I am now teaching her about racism and being careful. She knows about racism but being CAREFUL is different. Not to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and to look for clues in people that things may be amiss. There are still people who commit hate crimes and they live right here in our local area. They do not need an easy target. I do not want her to be an easy target due to my failure to teach her about the horrors of racism and that it is still alive and well and looking for the unsuspecting.

Well, I hope that woman found her way. She left Starbucks without speaking to the only person who could help her. Currents still run deep.

This is so typical. People who are less fortunate being used as lab experiments. The public health doctor who led the experiment in Guatemala, John C. Cutler, would later have an important role in the Tuskegee study in which black American men with syphilis were deliberately left untreated for decades.

When I read the story below, I was appalled for two main reasons. One, the level of racism. Indian people I know have that caste system in place and on many occassions have killed many women because they were not of the right cast or just for being a woman. Don't they burn them over there. So, I would be very careful about dating someone who was from India. I REALLY would have to see what the parents were like. I know it seems to be a cultural thing, but this seemed racist to me. She was black and that was why she was killed.

The other thing is that doesn't he realize he is black too...straighter hair but still black. White America does not like him any more than Black Americans or Hispanics or Asians or anyone else how is not caucasian. Not only do Blacks in this country have to deal with the still ever present racism of white America, now there are the other populations that are coming into this country. Racism toward black Americans is flowing from them as well.

A native of India who became a prominent businessman in the United States
was found guilty of murder last week for hiring hit-men to kill his
daughter-in-law because she was Black.
A jury in Fulton County, Georgia was
convinced by prosecution arguments that 69-year-old Chiman Rai was so angered by
his son marrying an African American woman that he hired hit-men to kill her.
Twenty-two year-old Sparkle Michelle Rai was found strangled and stabbed
more than a dozen times eight years ago. The senior Rai immigrated to the United
States in 1970 and for a while taught math at Mississippi’s predominantly Black
Alcorn State University.
The prosecutors said they would seek the death
penalty in the case and the jury rendered a death sentence the day after finding
Rai guilty.
The case was broken when a young woman was arrested on another
charge and tried to improve her situation by helping police solve a crime she
said she witnessed several years before. The crime was the stabbing of Sparkle
Michelle Rai.
