The Library Is Not What It Used To Be

The library is not what it used to be. When I was little, it was the most quiet of places with stoic librarians who would give evil looks and shush you with a finger if you began to look like you were about to utter a sound. Today it is a noisy place that has lost is hallowed silence. People talk in their outside voices with no pretense of a whisper. I feel some people do not even know how to whisper from the looks of them.

And it is a sick place as well. More people disturb what little silence there is with coughs, colds, nasty clearing of throats and just being plain noisy. Do they have to drop all they have and then proceed to sit with THAT much noise! GEE! People are like busy hamsters in the library. No soft, gentle, quiet moves.

Kids! Parents to not teach their kids to be quiet in the library. Little elementary kids laugh with wild abandon and talk to their siblings like they are at home. Stay at home moms bring in crying infants and stay at least for 30-40 minutes worth of crying.

No! The library is not what it used to be and I do not see any way for it to go back. It is a social place now. Its' quiet reverence lost never to be regained.
