Precious Black Swan

I had the opportunity to see Precious yesterday. I checked it out from the library. It has to be one of the most disturbing movies I have seen in quite awhile. I mean. I guess I feel a connection because I too suffered some abuse as a child for quite a while. I wonder if abuse, if portrayed on the big screen would all be so disturbing? I wonder. I suffered a lot. About half way through I was wondering if Precious would ever be able to get away. I thank god she did. Mothers. Some are just biological. They spit you out into the world with no sense of giving a baby any of the skills to survive and in fact, do all they can to thwart any upward growth. Only by change and the grace of God and the help of others do a few manage to see the light, break free and end the cycle.

Precious. She was anything but that to her mother.

Black Swan. Black Swan. What can I say. I saw this movie too. It was a movie weekend. It took me a while to realize the main actress/ballerina was mentally ill. She had to be schizophrenic and I think even had some sort of dis-associative disorder. I think she was even having some sort of personality split. The movie was well done but again....why did not that mother get that child some help? She needed some medication.

Precious black swans. May you always find the strength. Somehow.

I did.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Snapshots In My Time...
Of My Time.....Hauntings.

Well. I did not EVEN have turkey on Thanksgiving...just lamb and baked beef. I went to some families house for dinner and that is what they served along with baked chicken and fish. Where was the turkey????? Because I was going out, I did not buy a personal turkey. So no turkey this year. Seems most odd. I have also had a few days off and of course the germs that have I have been eluding, have jumped on me. I feel sick today. Scratchy throat and some coughing. I feel a rough night is ahead. I have eaten all I think I can today.

I have tried to get rest and I do feel better. Not so sleep deprived. I have watched a few movies this weekend. The best was Wall-E. That was a very cute movie. Check it out if you have not seen it. I bought it from Target last week to save for Thanksgiving night. It was worth it! I even cried. But is not that what most Disney movies do? Wall-E was very cute!

Today I cooked lunch/dinner early. Roasted pork, rice with gravy and mushrooms, wilted spinach and peach cobbler. Now I about to pop! I feel today like I should have felt on Thanksgiving but did not....full and about to pop! It was so good. Well. See ya later. Going to rest.

Hancock

Snapshots In My Time...
Of My Time.....Hauntings.

I went to see Hancock this past weekend and it was great! There were many twists and turns. I will not mention here so that I will not spoil it for others. All I could say was WOW! Who would have thought?! Will Smith is doing it big time....over 100 million dollars. He has it right for July 4th. He owns that weekend. It is entertaining and PLEASE, PLEASE, do not leave when the credits roll. It is not over! The movie continues on and the way it REALLY ends....a sequel has to be in the making.

What do I give Hancock? 2 thumbs up and a bag of chips!

Cloverfield

Snapshots In My Time...
Of My Time.....Hauntings.

I had the chance to go and see Cloverfield this past weekend. It was great! The beginning was just a little hard to keep up with because the camera was mobing way too much as they ran. It made me a little dizzy but I got used to it.

It had just enough suspense and it was kind of scary at times. Yes. I was screaming out loud. All that motion made me feel I was right there as it was happening. The music was great. I just loved the soundtrack. It was very majestic and powerful. The thing that most people do not know is that they must stay all the way thru all the credits. There is something of a surprise ending right after them that is out of this world creepy. Did you miss it? Go see the movie again and DO NOT leave until the credits have all run and you see and hear what you missed.

My rating? Good enough to see a second time.

Superbad is SUPERBAD!!

Snapshots In My Time...
Of My Time.....Hauntings.

Superbad is coming! Check out this video! Looks like a very funny film to me. Geeks coming out on top! Go to utube and check out all 5 clips! August 1st will be the only day you can view the videos so don't miss them. You will be sorry if you do miss them.

Superbad is super bad! I must admit that I was not very familiar with the movie , but once I saw the clips I knew that I would have to see it. I will take my daughter with me! I may have to see it myself first as it is rated R. If it is ok, then I will take her. She is just a very young teen. The movie will be in theaters on August 17Th, so get ready. There are also exclusive clips available that you can view as well. These are a bonus for us. And you can take it to the next leverl, as there are even ringtones and wallpapers so that you too can customize your phone or desktop.

You too can be be superbad-just like McLoving! This is going to be one of the great funny movies of this summer, so be sure not to miss it or any of the clips and freebees on line! Just to give a little about it: The movie features two teens who are about to go to college and have decided that they will change from losers to BMOC's after a night with the ladies. It tells their adventures of that one humiliating night! Should be good for lots of laughs. Be sure to check it out!

Reno 911! Miami The Movie

Snapshots In My Time...
Of My Time.....Hauntings.

Reno 911! Miami The Movie is now out on DVD. Have you picked it up yet? Well you had better. You want to know what cops gone bad look like , just in case you need to help yourself. If you call for help and they come to your aid, you want to know that...really! Get ready to laugh your head off. The movie is centered around Reno and their crazy police department. They are called in to stop a terrorist attack during spring break that takes place at a national police convention in Miami. Can we say slap stick!

Reno 911! Miami The Movie
is put out by Fox and is based on the Comedy Central series. That I did not know as I have not seen any of Comedy Central. I am too busy watching sci-fi. On the website Fox has added 4 computer games related to the dvdthat are pretty cool. Check out the upper right hand corner and you can play too. I played Midnight Shootout because it looked like the easiest of all. Just point and shoot and try not to hit the civilians or the police officers. The game itself has 5 rounds with a different weapon each round. Here is my score and weapon per round:

  • .44 caliber S & W special 300 points
  • .357 magnum -100 points (that was a bad round)
  • desert eagle 650 points (I made up for that last round)
  • Ak-47 1000 points
  • Rocket Launcher 2500 points (I did not so good with the rockets. I burned the whole city)
My grand total was $4350. For a first time playing I think My score was pretty good. Play some games on the site then run out and get Reno 911! Miami The Movie. It just might be the perfect movie for a saturday movie night!

Shine

Snapshots In My Time...
Of My Time.....Hauntings.

I recently saw the movie called Shine. Shine was made in 1996 and it is the true life story of David Helfgott. I must say that it was a tragic, riveting movie. It was so very sad. I cried or rather I tried to hold it all in. There came a time when I could do it no more. When David, played by Geoffrey Rush, cried on stage after he had overcome his illness and was on his way to playing concerts again, I had to let it all out. It was the climax of the movie. It was beautifully done and the music was excellent. I can see why it won an Oscar. Coming from parents who were just as toxic as David's was, it was kind of like seeing some of my early childhood. (Thank god I was stronger than he was..no breakdowns here.) If y ou have not seen Shine, it is a movie worth seeing. Check it out!

Ahoy Matey's!

Snapshots In My Time...
Of My Time.....Hauntings.

Shiver me timbers! I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean at World's End this past Saturday and it was wonderful. I of course went in pirate gear. Who does not dress up for a movie? It was three hours of adventure and pirates. I ate an entire bag of large buttered popcorn. That was breakfast! I know that some of the reviews are mixed. Poo Poo all you want. the movie is raking in the dough! It is another Disney hit!

Now the plot in this one was mightily involved. You really had to pay attention to keep up with what was happening. I would have no problems seeing it again! It is worth it? Yes, the movie definitely has entertainment value, adventure, love and of course pirates! Savvy!

The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra

Snapshots In My Time...
Of My Time.....Hauntings.

Tonight I went over to a friends house and we saw the craziest movie. It was the Lost Skeleton of Cadavra. At first I was a little skeptical because it started out kind of slow. I thought it was really going to be a bust. Then it picked up and the 5 of us laughed out fool heads off.

It is an independent film spoofing 1950s era B-movies. It was videotaped on a budget of less than $100,000, and converted to black and white film in post-production. Actors were instructed to give wooden performances to help with the intentional cheesiness of the film. In total, it took five days to write, and just over 10 days to film.

Some of the best lines of the film are: fold yourself in the middle. We had to rewind and watch this line over and over it was so funny. Then the "tip, tip , tip , tip , tip" by Animala. We howled at that. The use of the "human whereabouter" was another hoot as well as the Amish terrariums. It was laugh out loud funny! You too can own it at home. It is available on DVD. Be sure to check it out.

Babel

Snapshots In My Time...
Of My Time.....Hauntings.

I went to see Babel last night and I must say I was dissappointed. I do not see what all the rabble about Babel was all about. It simply did not flow. The story line got lost. The whole japanese tangent was what threw it all off. What was in the note at the end. Why was she naked on the balcony. I know she was troubled but that story line was a stretch. The whole morrocan story with the hispanic maid taking the kids to mexico fit well, but the japanese story did not! Not! NOT!

That movie as an Oscar or Golden Globe contender is lame. Brad Pitt did not do any, let alone his best, work in that movie. The best thing about that movie was the music. It was beautiful and haunting and I can see it being Oscar/Golden Globe contender for music, but nothing else. There were a few good camera shots. Quite a few that were very artistic, but nothing really dramatic. Would I recommend Babel? No. Do not waste your money to see it in the thearters. Wait until it comes out on DVD.
