Okay, it seems that once one crazy gets CRAZY, it gives all the others permission to do so as well. After the tragedy at Virgnina Tech, it seems that there was another bomb threat at the school on yesterday. I just got home today and it seems like the news is filled with stories of something going on at the Space Center...shots fired and a man with a gun.
NASA evacuated a building at the Johnson Space Center in Houston after an employee with a gun was seen and a shot was fired, a NASA spokesman said Friday.A SWAT team with the Houston Police has been dispatched to building 44 on the Johnson Space Center property, a source told CNN. Building 44 holds a laboratory.
The call for help came in to the Houston Police at 1:40 p.m. (2:40 p.m. ET) but it's unclear who made that call.
The constant bombardment of media stories about the crazy behavior of others becomes entertainment in and of itself. The media clearly plays a role in our perception of the world going to hell in a handbasket, for the more bizarre and crazy the behavior, the more likely it will appear over and over again on the news.
An additional and often unforeseen consequence of media attention to the crazies and their behavior is that it often contributes to copycat crimes as vulnerable others imitate the behavior seen on television. It is a bad world we live in today. Katie, Bar the Door!
