This Dress!

Why? Why has this dress become a world side phenomenon?  Just for the record I see the white and gold.  Regardless, this dress is ugly!

I wonder why this was the most news worthy thing this past week.   There  are far more serious things going on in the world that could be addressed with this much attention and intensity.  What about the 36 million people who are enslaved in human trafficking, or animal cruelty that happens on  daily basis, drugs, unrest in the middle east, urban crime, profiling...the list goes on.

The Not So Good News Weeks

I think that this has been the most horrible two weeks of news ever!  Planes being shot out of the sky full of innocent people, the countries involved blaming each other for the disaster and loss of innocent lives, nothing resolved in the kidnapping of the girls in Africa, parents leaving multiple children in cars to die, the middle east exploding in conflict. Children from South America and Mexico flooding the boarders. I do not think things in the world could get any worse.  But they can.  They will.

I like to keep up with what is happening in the world but it seems none of it is good.  The news has been depressing, to say the least.  I wonder where the good in the world is.  It could be that the world was always this terrible but we did not know about it.  With the development of social media, satellites and our advanced technology, we know what is happening in the most remote parts of the world almost instantly.  Prior to all this technology we simply were not that well informed.  Was it better?  Was it better to be more ignorant of what the rest of the world was like?

For "average citizen me" it makes me aware of what good I can do in my little corner of the world.  I can be the good that I want to see in the world.  That is all we can do.  Be good and do good where we are.  That is no solution for all the injustice in the world but it might make things better right where you are.  Where you live.  Where you make a difference.  Make a difference in the life of someone.  You will never know how your kind gesture can affect people or situations.  So.  Just do it. Be good and shine where you are.

Notes on the News

Notes on the news.  After working all weekend, I feel a little disconnected from what has been happening in the world.  The bits I have been able to pick up from the weekend is that the California police are going crazy.  The rogue officer they are trying to catch...you know the one with all those grievances who is now targeting officers and their families...well the regular police are all going crazy.  They have made two extreme errors in identification and shot up a grandmother and granddaughter who were delivering newspapers in a pick up truck. Since when do two females look like the male they are trying to find??  The police shop up the truck. Luckily no one died.

Then it happened again.  They shot up the truck of a WHITE surfer.  Since when is the one they are looking for white?  He is a black male.  It is sad because it lets you know that the officers who are on the force are not properly trained, have no good judgment and obviously no investigative skills.  I am glad to say that I do not want to live anywhere in that region right now.  Anyone innocent can fall victim to the bad decisions of the police there.  Someone needs to get some control.

The next news bit was about the pope.  Having gone to all Catholic schools, I have been immersed  into the Catholic faith having to study religion all those years.  I am not catholic and never have been.  I saw the Christmas mass and the pope looked very frail then.  He even needed help with that.  I do feel for him.  He is retiring or resigning due to health issues because he can no longer do the job.  I just hope that he will have some time to enjoy his time off and that he is not so sick that he is just sick and nothing else.  I hope he can have a little good quality of life.

I did not see the Grammy's.  I never watch those award shows.  Instead I watched my favorite show, Downton Abbey. Love it!  Bates is back and the whole gay conspiracy has been resolved.  Not the way I thought but that is okay.  At the end we saw the preview that next weeks show is the finale.  Much too short but such a good show!  Can't wait for season 4!

I am sure that there is much more going on in the world but I guess I will have to catch up this week with the morning and evening news!

Back to the Stone Age

“If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down,” Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin asserted on Sunday, ascribing a mysterious and powerful missile-defense system to today’s women.

REALLY???  How ignorant can Akin be? That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.  It is a good thing that ads are being withdrawn and support is being taken away. He does not deserve to have any sort of office at all. EVER.  I wonder if he would think the same thing if he were to be raped?  Would his body have a way to shut that whole thing down? I think not.

On the drive to work today I heard him trying to apologize for the wrong words he used.  He is done.  I understand he is not going to leave the campaign.  He does not have to but he sure will be wasting his time.  Epic fail to him!

What is the World Coming Too?

I woke up this morning and saw this news story and could not believe it....a lifeguard was fired for saving a mans' life because he was drowning a few feet away from the area where the guard was protecting.  Read the story here:   Florida lifeguard fired after saving man's life.  Just because the signs are up does not mean you do not have a duty to save someone.  The man was swimming in an area just outside the lifeguards range where signs are posted "swim at your own risk."  The guards are supposed to just call 911 and hope that rescue gets there in time.  Maybe there would be an issue if 2 people were drowning....a man in the guards area and a man outside.  IF he left the man in his area and saved the one outside and the man in his area drowned...maybe there would be an issue to fire the employee.

This is a sad case.  We have guards at our local beaches and I have often wondered what would they do if they ran into this situation. I wonder what sort of message this sends to other guards.  I bet some will just let you drown if you are outside the area.....not good.  The guards on our beaches have watched out for kids who went out too far who were not swimming in the guarded areas.  I have seen then blow that air horn and signal for them to come back into the shore.  Who knows how many they have saved and the general public did not know?

Whoever made the decision to fire that young man was clearly in the wrong.  I commend him for saving a life.  With the skills that he has obtained as a guard, I think he showed great character by saving that man.  I only hope that the employer will see things differently as well in the future.  That young man was a hero that day...not a bad employee who cannot follow directions.  Tomas Lopez, you are to commended!

Really? The US is Sorry? Please

Snapshots In My Time...Of My Time.....Hauntings.

From 1946 to 1948, American public health doctors deliberately infected nearly 700 Guatemalans — prison inmates, mental patients and soldiers — with venereal diseasesin what was meant as an effort to test the effectiveness of penicillin. More here

This is so typical. People who are less fortunate being used as lab experiments. The public health doctor who led the experiment in Guatemala, John C. Cutler, would later have an important role in the Tuskegee study in which black American men with syphilis were deliberately left untreated for decades.

Sad!

Black Friday Craziness

Snapshots In My Time...
Of My Time.....Hauntings.

I stayed out the fray this year. I wanted to jump in but was just too tired to do so. I am glad I did as after hearing the local news over the weekend, all sorts of things have happened locally and in other places. Just crazy! In the news were the following things:
  • Locks of stores were super glued shut so that they could not open on Friday morning! 71 stores were glued shut! That was a lot of superglue!
  • The Dollar General was robbed at 8:00 tonight...scary.
  • A man was trampled at Walmart by shoppers on yesterday. The shopper broke thru the doors! Nuts! He died and others were taken to the hospital.
You know, if you have to do all of that it is not worth it! Really!

Dinner is Served!

Snapshots In My Time...
Of My Time.....Hauntings.

Now this is an interesting piece of news. I saw where rat meat is now in serious demand in some Asian places like Vietman and Thailand. They have always been eating rats there but now due to inflation, the demand is increasing and the price is going higher for it. Here is a short clip from the article:

The price of rat meat has quadrupled in Cambodia this year as inflation has put other meat beyond the reach of poor people, officials said on Wednesday.

With consumer price inflation at 37 percent according to the latest central bank estimate, demand has pushed a kilogram of rat meat up to around 5,000 riel (69 pence) from 1,200 riel last year.

Spicy field rat dishes with garlic thrown in have become particularly popular at a time when beef costs 20,000 riel a kg.

Full story. I do not think I could eat a rat or a mouse. It is because when I was in elementary, middle and high school, I had these animals as pets. My mother was a teacher and had hampsters and mice in her classroom as pets. During the summer all these animals came home and we kept them as pets. We had gerbils and ginny pigs also. Small rodents as food? I could never eat them. They are pets to me. Sacred. Pets....not to be eaten. If I were in a desperate, survival situation, it might be a different story. But trust me. It would be the ultimate, very last resort.

Close to Home

Snapshots In My Time...
Of My Time.....Hauntings.

I was listening to the news tonight and I heard some alarming news about a business about 5 minutes away from me, right near our local mall. There is a woman, from Romania or Bulgaria or Hungary or some place near those countries who has had a business as a fortune teller about 5 minutes away near our local mall. Apparently 2 males went into her business about 8:30 Saturday night demanding money. The woman resisted and was shot in the face. No word on if she lived or died. The 2 men got away.

Now, I do not know this woman personally. I just know of her. I used to work at the mall back in 1994-1996 and that was when I became aware of who she was. I worked in the fragrance and cosmetic section and she was always in there shopping and RETURNING many things she bought. She was scary and looked like a gypsy...dark clothes, accent and very mysterious. When ever she came to my counter, I helped her but I was always wigged out by her. I think she knew it because she always gave me very strange looks. By strange looks I mean STRANGE!!!

She would complete her shopping and leave by the mall entrance. When she got about 2 stores away she would stop in her tracks, turn around and look at me. It was weird because I may have been with another customer, cleaning, whatever...I would just have the urge to look up and out into the mall and she would be there, standing, looking straight at me. FREAKY! Since that time I have seen her on and off in the malls or the grocery store or the outlet stores. I would go the other way. She still freaked me out after all this time.

I just saw her twice this week. I saw her in the grocery store on Monday night and on Wednesday I saw her shopping in the outlet store standing within 2 feet of me. Now I hear this tonight and it is alarming. I hope she will be alright. Given my interaction with her in the past during returns when I was working in the mall in the 1990's, I can see her resisting. These days with kids, it is not the best option. They have no regard for life. I live in the suburbs and where her business and home was is also in the suburbs in a nice area. The mall is in a nice area also, so this is crime that is too close to home.

The problem is that people from the poorest parts of town have discovered this area of the suburbs. They have discovered the mall that for the most part was tucked away, safe in the suburbs. Some of them have actually moved here due to the addition of free housing now allowed in some apartment complexes. Crime is creeping into my neck of the woods.

Something Really Scary

Snapshots In My Time...
Of My Time.....Hauntings.

"I Robot" is not just a movie anymore. Scientists have developed a robot that has feelings. Does this not scare anyone else out there? This new robot can feel happy or sad based on our reaction to it. In addition, it has a heart that can beat and it can breathe also. Scary...really. He looks like a small child in this picture, all wrapped around this handler.

Man Beheads Passenger on Bus

Snapshots In My Time...
Of My Time.....Hauntings.

This was a terrible and most odd story. What is the world coming to?

Terrified passengers on a Greyhound Canada bus travelling on the
Trans-Canada Highway stood by helpless Thursday as a man repeatedly stabbed and then beheaded a young fellow passenger. The attack shocked the other 35
passengers on board, some of which were children, including one just six years
old, as it appeared to spring from nowhere.

The man responsible appeared normal
and had been sharing a cup of tea at a stop prior to going into a stabbing
frenzy. He had boarded the bus about an hour before the attack. The youth
attacked, who appeared to witnesses to be about 19, was sleeping at the time. It
is not known if the two knew each other, but first indications are that it was a
random attack. The Greyhound bus was driving west of Portage la Prairie, in
Manitoba on Wednesday night when the attack occurred.'There was a bloodcurdling
scream. I was just reading my book, and all of a sudden, I heard it,' Garnet
Caton, who was sitting in front of the two men, told Canadian TV network, CBC.
'It was like something between a dog howling and a baby crying, I guess you
could say,' Caton said. 'I don't think it will leave me for a while.'

The bus jerked to a halt when the stabbing commenced. Passengers then fled the bus before returning to block the exit of the attacker. A truck driver stopped and
lent assistance.Caton, the bus driver, and the trucker re-boarded the bus to
check on the victim."When we came back on the bus, it was visible at the end of
the bus he was cutting the guy's head off and pretty much gutting him up," Caton
told CBC.The attacker ran at them, Caton said, and they ran out of the bus,
holding the door shut as he tried to slash at the trio. When the attacker tried
to drive the bus away, the driver disabled the vehicle, he said."While we were
watching the door, he calmly walks up to the front with the head in his hand and
the knife and just calmly stares at us and drops the head right in front of us,"
said Caton.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police crisis teams, including negotiators,
negotiated with the suspect, believed to be a 40-year-old man, for several hours
while he was on the bus. Around 1:30am he attempted to jump from a bus window
and was subdued and arrested, the RCMP said. The man is now in the custody of the
Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Manitoba, an RCNP spokesman said. The spokesman
said he had yet to be charged. The bus was travelling from Edmonton, Alberta, to
Winnipeg, Manitoba, and was about 45 minutes from its destination when the
attack occurred, Greyhound spokeswoman Abby Wambaugh in Dallas, Texas
said.Canadian Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day said that like most
Canadians, he was horrified to hear witness accounts of the homicide."The
horrific nature of it is probably one of a kind in Canadian history," he told
reporters late Thursday morning in Levis, Que.Greyhound Canada is the largest
provider of intercity bus transportation in Canada, serving nearly 700
communities and facilitating 1,000 daily departures across the country.

Indian Man Kills Black Daughter in Law

Snapshots In My Time...
Of My Time.....Hauntings.

When I read the story below, I was appalled for two main reasons. One, the level of racism. Indian people I know have that caste system in place and on many occassions have killed many women because they were not of the right cast or just for being a woman. Don't they burn them over there. So, I would be very careful about dating someone who was from India. I REALLY would have to see what the parents were like. I know it seems to be a cultural thing, but this seemed racist to me. She was black and that was why she was killed.

The other thing is that doesn't he realize he is black too...straighter hair but still black. White America does not like him any more than Black Americans or Hispanics or Asians or anyone else how is not caucasian. Not only do Blacks in this country have to deal with the still ever present racism of white America, now there are the other populations that are coming into this country. Racism toward black Americans is flowing from them as well.

A native of India who became a prominent businessman in the United States
was found guilty of murder last week for hiring hit-men to kill his
daughter-in-law because she was Black.
A jury in Fulton County, Georgia was
convinced by prosecution arguments that 69-year-old Chiman Rai was so angered by
his son marrying an African American woman that he hired hit-men to kill her.
Twenty-two year-old Sparkle Michelle Rai was found strangled and stabbed
more than a dozen times eight years ago. The senior Rai immigrated to the United
States in 1970 and for a while taught math at Mississippi’s predominantly Black
Alcorn State University.
The prosecutors said they would seek the death
penalty in the case and the jury rendered a death sentence the day after finding
Rai guilty.
The case was broken when a young woman was arrested on another
charge and tried to improve her situation by helping police solve a crime she
said she witnessed several years before. The crime was the stabbing of Sparkle
Michelle Rai.

More Charles Manson Victims

Snapshots In My Time...
Of My Time.....Hauntings.

I was reading a news blurb about the possibility that Charles Manson may have killed others. Now the police are going to dig because it is feared that they may have killed hitchikers or wanders that may have visited them. Will it never end? I still can't believe that they still have a parole option. They need to be put under the jail..forever! The only good thing about it is that some families who have had people just vanish off the face of the earth, will have answers.

I Want To Live HERE!

Snapshots In My Time...

This is my dream house. I am a sci-fi geek, extraordinaire, so this house is right up my alley. UFO's are real and aliens do live among us now. I believe that and always have. I have seen a ship as well. That was what changed my life....seeing that ship when I was in college, my freshman year. It was a horrible and terrifying experience. It made me very fearful for a long time..like I could be seen ny them at any time and just taken.

This great home has a starting bid of $100,000. I know it will only go up from there. More here.

Doomsday Seed Vault?

Snapshots In My Time...
Of My Time.....Hauntings.

Why does this only scare me? When I heard about the Doomsday Seed Vault the day before yesterday, I asked quite a few people if they had heard about it. Noone had. Scary. It instantly made me think of government conspiracies and wars and the need to stock up on canned goods. I was wondering what other types of doomsday vaults are being built and for who. It they can come up with a vault so secure that the seeds will last 10,000 years and also withstand a nuclear blast, well, I need to live or work within close proximity, so that when the pushing of the buttons happen, I will have a chance to survive.

It is a scary thought. Doomsday vaults. It realy made me think.

Cobweb Spiders in Texas

Snapshots In My Time...
Of My Time.....Hauntings.

This is my worst nightmare come to life. To actually find out that there are cobweb spiders that work together is just plain scary! Who knew. I thought this was a fake story but no. It is not! Now I would want to see it but it reminds me of the episode of the x files in which loggers cut down a tree and something that was alive in the rings gets out and it attackes at night and spins a web around you. At the very end Fox and Mulder were trying to leave the forest when they were attacked or swarmed. That was a very creepy episode! I think I will have to go watch it again on tomorrow.

Etomologists are debating the origin and rarity of a sprawling spider web that blankets several trees, shrubs and the ground along a 200-yard stretch of trail in a North Texas park.

Officials at Lake Tawakoni State Park say the massive mosquito trap is a big attraction for some visitors, while others won't go anywhere near it.

"At first, it was so white it looked like fairyland," said Donna Garde, superintendent of the park about 45 miles east of Dallas. "Now it's filled with so many mosquitoes that it's turned a little brown. There are times you can literally hear the screech of millions of mosquitoes caught in those webs."

Spider experts say the web may have been constructed by social cobweb spiders, which work together, or could be the result of a mass dispersal in which the arachnids spin webs to spread out from one another.

The Snake Rears Its Ugly Head

Snapshots In My Time...
Of My Time.....Hauntings.

Well I have been hearing that Osama has again crawled out of the woodwork, where ever he is hiding. I can't believe he is still hanging on. I thougth he was ill and on dialysis. With the anniversary of 9/11 just next week it is just terrible that he is up to his stuff. I know that on the morning news they said that his beard was black in the video and that they would be analyzing the tape. Does that mean anything? Who knows. I just wish he could be found, wherever he is hiding.

Nicole Richie Needs to Eat!

Snapshots In My Time...
Of My Time.....Hauntings.

She really needs to eat now. She has a baby to feed. She still looks way too thin in this picture. Apparenty she is already 4 months pregnant. I wonder what Hilary Duff has to say about this! Nicole, like Paris and Lindsey Lohan just does not know what to do with themselves.

They all can afford to hire a driver to take them wherever they want to go, yet, they continue to drive drunk and get all those DUI's resulting in jail time. Will they never learn!

Upwardly Gothic

Snapshots In My Time...
Of My Time.....Hauntings.

Now after that last post, I came across this article regarding the gothic community. It is very interesting! It gives a little insite and perspective! Still very different but it takes all kinds to make up this big wide world of ours! The one person I know is a co-worker who is very thin, so thin it hurts to look at her and she changes her hair color each week. It might be black or electric blue or a rainbow. You just never know with her. And let's not talk about the socks. Most odd socks that are long, go to the knee and have all sorts of animal heads. Crazy! Those socks are crazy. She has fake piercings. Some are realy but the nose right that is like the ring a bull would wear is scary.

Behind the black hair dye and white make-up goths are simply art lovers, who aspire to middle-class values, says a new study. Is that right?

The moment their teenage son or daughter dyes their hair black and starts getting creative with eyeliner can be a nightmare for parents. But a report suggests it should be a time for celebration.

Goths are likely to grow up to be doctors, lawyers or architects, the study by Sussex University says.

They are refined and sensitive, keen on poetry and books, not big on drugs or anti-social behaviour. They are also likely to carry on being goths into their adult life.

They have an ability to express their feelings and are believers in romance rather than one-night stands, it says. In fact, the only things dark about them are their clothing and their sarcastic sense of humour.

Here We Go Again

Snapshots In My Time...
Of My Time.....Hauntings.

Once again I see that Lindsey Lohan has been arrested for DUI and cocaine possession. Her stint in rehab has just obviously failed It is very sad. She has so much, fame and money, yet she still cannot get her life together. She needs to stay in rehad for a much longer time and get some family couseling. Her entire family needs that because she has some loser parents. That father---please. In the end I just hope that she does not end up like all those other stricken child stars like River Pheonix. They end up broke and many have killed themselves. It is a shame. She has long lost her base with the young teens and girls. She has a film that will be coming out this Friday. I will not be going to see it. No use to throw good movie money after bad!
